Sydney was an instructor for Texas Christian University in Fort Worth for 29 years, and has taught Suzuki Harp (a by ear approach) for 20 years. She still teaches at her home studio in Parker County, as well as at Country Day School. Sydney has also taught at several national Suzuki Institutes and published articles in national harp and string journals.
Her students are in demand as soloists and in ensemble, and have played at many venues around the Dallas-Fort Worth area. They enjoy playing music in the Bass Performance Hall lobby before events such as the Nutcracker and before Fort Worth Symphony performances. Many of Sydney's students are in demand as soloists as well as ensemble players.
The Suzuki Harp Ensemble, directed by Sydney Howell, has been performing in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for 15 years. Students range in age from 8 to 18 from Fort Worth, Arlington, Aledo, Weatherford, and Stephenville. They enjoy playing for hospitals, nursing homes, and in recitals.
